Me again; thought this could use a new thread.
I've never moved a Protools system from one computer to another,
but need to do it now, having just upgraded my G4 PowerPC/OS 10.4.11
to an iMac 24"/OS 10.6. Hoping y'all could help me smooth the
transition.
I've been running SampleTank 2 and EZ Drummer in PT-LE v7.1 with
some Waves plug-ins. Will I need to buy new upgrades of these plug-
ins when I go to PT-LE v8 on an Intel based Mac? Also, is it correct
that Waves doesn't yet run on OS 10.6?
Thanks in advance!
Rick.

Depending on how old your Waves plug-ins are, you will need to ugrade.
I only had the Renaissance package and It cost me $132 for the
upgrade. I went from Waves version 5 to 6.
Protools 7.1 won't work either. you will need PT8. You won't have to
move protools to the new computer, when you buy the upgrade, you will
get PT8 , I got mine on a disc, but it was more money. The download
time was going to be abourt 4 hours or more . You will then need to
download 8.01(freebie) (takes 2 hours on DSL) and then you will need
to download 8.03, which is the beta version for Snow Leopard. When
you get into the Digidesign registration, their instructions are less
than concise. I believe that I have their letter explaining the
process here. email me if you need it.
Aren't computers fun?
I was able to keep the old version of protools on my old computer as
well as the old version of Waves. Call Waves to get both versions
authorized on the ILOK. I still have to transfer the ILOK and my 002
box when I want to use the older versions but that isn't a big
problem.
Waves won't work on snow leopard 10.6. Check their website.
You will also have to buy a cable for Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 on
the 003.

Thanks for the scoop Richard!
Ay caramba, this is the part about music (?! :>) that I hate.
But it will be nice when it's all up and running properly.
I've been working on an Mbox at 44.1 K, 24 bit, rather than 48K,
since the final CD product is at 44.1K, and I figured it would be less
conversion and possibly sound better just to stay at 44.1K. Now that
I have the possibility of 88.2K or 96K, I'm curious what the general
consensus is regarding which resolution to use? What are most people
using these days?
Thanks again, Rick.
