Cubase SX3 and VST recording problems...guitar related

Hi all.....using Cubase SX3 with MAudio Mobile Pre....WinXp Pro...2
gig ram...AMD Athlon 64 3800+

My problem is....whenever I try to record with Guitar Rig3, Amplitude
or really any VST (synths etc;) in Cubase...about 3-5 seconds after I
start recording everything starts making noise and I have to exit
Cubase just to make the noise stop.....all VST's work fine within
Cubase but as soon as I want to record...bam!!!!
Any help???!!!!!

sounds like a feeback problem where some output is being routed back
to some input and once it starts going round and round...well you get
the idea...

Do you have some sort of 'input monitor' switch somewhere?
If so try turning it off.
