Hello good people, I busk using an acoustic guitar with a battery
powered internal mic through a Roland StreetCube amp and it works
quite well but i want to buy a Godin 5th ave kingpin jazz guitar that
has a p90 pickup, will i need to use a preamp to get enough volume? I
tried a friends jazz guitar through the Roland StreetCube and it
wasn't loud enough. What sort of preamp do i need if any? i play blues
and jazz.
thanks for any advice, JJ

There's no way to know how the Godin's output compares to the jazz
guitar that wasn't loud enough. Go to a store that has both the Godin
and StreetCube and give it a go. There are cheap pedals that offer
clean signal boost, and some expensive ones too. I like an old MXR
Micro Amp personally. You might overload the input of the Roland
before you get what you need, but it's worth a try.

There's no way to know from over the Internet what "enough volume" is
for you or the street you play on. I'd suggest that you take your amplifier
to the store where you're planning to buy the guitar and try it.

Frankly I would be surprised if any guitar with a P90 pickup was short
of volume - they are about 10dB louder than the average Strat pickup.
