Hi all,
The compressor is a DBX 118 Dynamic Range Enhancer. From the 70s I think.
Wooden sides, black front. RCA Connectors.
How much should I pay for such a thing?
TIA, Poland

That's not a compressor. It's quite the opposite.

Actually, I'm pretty certain the 117, 118, and 119 could both compress and
expand. The 117, which I owned, definitely could do both.

The 118 is a consumer product, and the kind of compression and expansion it
supplies is not the kind most professionals want.

Yes, it's made to compress to tape, and expand from
tape.....crude noise reduction.

It can make for a cool effect like the Level-Loc, Dyna-Mite,
MXR Mini Lim, etc.

I see them go from $30 to $70 on eBay, but wait 'till Joe Hot
Rock engineer talks in an interview about using it..... $600
baby! Then the re-issue.....then the plug-in......

I"ve picked up a a couple at flea markets and turned them over on ebay
this summer. I got over a hundred for 1 and maybe $65 or so for the
other. BTW-they do both expansion and compression
