View Full Version : Audio DVD's

A client wants to put a collection of audio CD's onto DVD -to be able to be
played on his home DVD player. Nero can make what it calls a "Jukebox Audio
DVD" which can incorporate mps, wma or nero digital audio files. It doesn't
make sense to me to compress the audio only to put it on a DVD which can
play higher resolution files. Is there a program to burn wav files to DVD
(not looking for surround) to be able to be played in a DVD player - not
just for storage?

Thanks,

Neil R

Are you looking for a *specific* solution for your client, or are you
looking for a *general* solution that will work for everyone? If you
seek a specific personal solution then you only need to determine
exactly what kinds of files and discs your client's player(s) will read.

One way is to just create a DVD data disc with a bunch of WAV
files and try it in the DVD player(s). Another method would be to look
up your DVD player make/model in the list at www.videohelp.com

Dunno that there is a *general* solution as not all DVD players will
play a data DVD disc full of WAV files.

There are a lot of different things you can do, but if you want to put
reasonable 44.1 or higher resolution audio on a DVD, you might as well
just burn a DVD-A. However, not all DVD players can play DVD-A discs.

On the other hand, how big is the collection? If you compress the hell
out of it and create a DVD-V with compressed audio, you can get more time
on the disc.

IIRC, a DVD-V disc can carry up to two channels of 96kHz/24bit audio,
uncompressed.

Test wma lossless with his actual player. LOSSLESS mind you!. I had not
expected to ever recommend something audio out of Seattle, but they have
actually come up with something useful that you can implement without
additional license cost.
