View Full Version : A Theory About Scott
vinyl anachronist

I think Scott actually gets most of his information about politics,
the military and other topics from RAO. I believe he sees a blog post
that catches his interest and uses us as a sounding board. He then
goes out into the real world armed with a more balanced view of the
topic. He's just too much of an asshole to give us credit for
educating him about these issues.
Oh, what am I talking about? He's a tool.

Right the second time.
I think when Witless said he comes to do battle with the "liberal" dragon,
he was sincere. He believes he can slay our pernicious smartness and "save"
America through endless yapping on RAO.

Hi, nym-shifter! Please cite the "numerous books" on the subject to
which you refer. While you're at it, please explain the chronology of
the Vietnamese military actions compared to the date of Cronkite's
statement.

Ed Moise ... [in a review of] Vo Nguyen Giap and Van Tien Dung, How We
Won the War. Philadelphia: Recon Publications, 1976. 63 pp.:
This book has been the subject of several unfounded rumors on the
Internet. The first one began in the late 1990s. Supposedly, General
Giap had written in How We Won the War that in the aftermath of the Tet
Offensive of 1968, the Communist leaders in Vietnam had been ready to
abandon the war, but that a broadcast by Walter Cronkite, declaring the
Tet Offensive a Communist victory, persuaded them to change their minds
and fight on. This rumor was entirely false. Giap had not mentioned
Cronkite, and had not said the Communists had ever considered giving up
on the war.
Several variants of this rumor appeared in 2004. In these, Giap is
supposed to have credited either the American anti-war movement in
general, or John Kerry's organization (Vietnam Veterans Against the War)
in particular, for persuading the Communist leaders to change their
minds and not give up on the war. Giap is sometimes said to have made
this statement in How We Won the War, sometimes in an unnamed 1985
memoir. All versions of the rumor are false. Neither in How We Won the
War, nor in any other book (the 1985 memoir is entirely imaginary), has
Giap mentioned Kerry or Vietnam Veterans Against the War, or said that
the Communist leaders had ever considered giving up on the war."

Oh yes. Well, if you count RAO alliances, that is. He was friends with most
of the 'borgs and nerds, including Harold and the Kroo. Curiously, he hated
Paula Wagnerette and Gregipus, but because I was hostile to them, Witless
tried to nuzzle them.

Bui Tin is the propaganda officer to whom I referred. I think I cited

I'm still trying to verify 2pid's claim that they're "more accurate"

Oh, I think I remember now. Isn't that whole 'accuracy' canard a huge joke?
Even if you value it for some unfathomable reason, the only way to verify it
is with a bunch of meaningless "tests".

Sometimes you do come off as a drunk. We all have our own burdens to
bear.
So Stephen (IIRC) mentioned someone who I knew and was very fond of, and
I posted my thoughts on her. A high crime, for sure.

I'm happy you shared. I knew you mentioned playing gigs and I wondered
if you had memories of Mary. I had no idea you had a friendship!
Name-dropping would be me mentioning the time I rode in an Indiana
University elevator with James Galway. He's short, but still taller than
the guitarist he was touring with, Kazuhito Yama****a.
Scottie and Sackie seem to be in attack mode at all times. Kinda trollie.

An offer hard to refuse I'm sure.
> As far as my comment about you, it was just the truth!
Name dropping is different than recalling events from a professional
career.
What you're saying is that a studio musician who says "I was on some
sessions for the last Sting album and I thought he was a really nice
guy" is "name dropping".
Is C.C. Sabathia name dropping if he mentions he had dinner with Derek
Jeter?

lol Fun. Yeah, namedropping would be me telling about who I had a

I think this is a result of the misperception 2pid has that I'm trying
to "oppress" his 'differing POV' or make him conform to mine.
There's a world of difference between oppressing 2pid and making a
fool of him.
Meanwhile, if 2pid was a Dem I'd have to strongly consider becoming a
republican.

Shhhh has posted a fair amount of evidence that he is a longtime Army

substandard discernment skills. As further evidence of Sacky's clogged
perspicacity, he actually believes that increasing the socialization of our
medical care system would be WORSE than the status quo. The status quo
leaves 20% of us uninsured and a further 40% (I think) underinsured. Not to
mention the absurdity of sick people being excluded from the health care
system because profits would be threatened. Sacky, like Scottie and the rest
of the dimwit "conservatives", truly believe that we have "the best" health
care system in the world. They actually say that out loud, without the
slightest tinge of irony.
So I wouldn't put any stock in Sacky's inability to figure out why you mock
and deride duh-Scottie. It's far too deep for him. ;-)

20% uninsured, 40% underinsured, even if I accept those numbers, no
problem, just
susidize their premiums for private insurance.

No, just normal insecurities.
I don't think she is a narcissist.
she just comes off as a fawning sycophant.

No way is it Krooger. Have you forgotten how ****ed up Turdborg is?
If it's not Dickie, it's somebody else who has a grudge against Jenn and
other Normals. Could be Stynchie or someone who's been absent for a while.
But never Krooger.

I don't "fawn". I work with some people. Some of them I admire. Do
you not work with people whom you admire?

Clearly you have no idea what "fawning" or "sycophant" means. For those
terms to apply to Jenn, you'd have to point out the individual(s) to whom
her sycophancy is directed.
Do you know what "politeness" means? How about "self-awareness"?

Wrong.

Close friendship!

Wrong. This is about standards, ethics and professional conduct. Would it
surprise you if one of the people you name-dropped here complained about it

OK. I can show that you have claimed never to have lied here through your
use of the following expression :
"I've never lied here."

A liar would say something similar of course.

True. So would a person who has never lied here. You might not agree,
but lying is a serious charge. If you believe that I've lied, point out
an example. If not, like Arny, you're showing that you are classless.

Yep. He's a world class guitarist. He wins polls about acoustic
fingerstyle players all the time. If you asked 100 players of that
style who they think the best player is, probably over 90 of them would
list LJ or Tommy Emmanuel. LJ is the first call studio guitarist in the
LA studios, music, movies, and TV. He has two Grammy awards. He's the
highest selling recording artist in the genre. His instructional videos
are the highest selling. Damn slacker... To state this is not
"fawning", it's stating objective facts.

Indeed, Boy George is the queen in that miscegnation of a relationship between
he and Jenn, along with that nauseating endearing reference to her he employs by
calling her "Mistress Jenn".
Imagine that! A frumpy old harridan like her as "Mistress Jenn."
A "Mistress Jenn" would be more akin to a cross between the Jennifer character
on "WKRP in Cincinnati" and Julie Newmar as Catwoman in the "Batman" sitcom.

fawning praise presented here.
But she is his student, she has a personal relationship with him.
She treats him with the same reverence shown here, it is sychophancy.
I am sure she has not one critical word to his face about his playing.

Yes, I and many others believe that he is a great player. Those who
hire, thereby putting their careers on the line, agree.

Again, you're entitled to your opinion. Would you care to post solo
guitar arrangements of "Gently Weeps" and Strawberry Fields" that you
enjoy more?

Again, false. I've criticized his playing to his face on several
occasions. Obviously you don't understand how musicians interact.

Without citing chapter and verse from your history of misconstruing what
other posters say on a gamut of topics, I'll just point out that your idea
of "fawning" apparently corresponds to my idea of "sincere".

Most 50+ women who avoid frumpiness do so only at considerable effort and
expense.
If you're going to resent one of Stynchblob's verbal schmutzes, why not
start with "harridan"? It's the opposite of what duh-Sacky called you.
These troglodytes who make vapid accusations against you have an utterly
transparent agenda. It's easier to argue that me calling Scottie a pooch is
a "lie" than to substantiate that accusation against you. It's absolutely
clear that the parade of pigs are wallowing in resentment toward women in
general and directing their vitriol at you as a target of convenience.
Either that, or they're prepubescent boys who are trying to put up a "No
Gurls" sign on the clubhouse door.

Don't forget Sacky. It's an item in his brief to man Witless's station while
the pooch is at the funeral.
That bunch, plus a couple others, also hate me and Shhhh and Marc. From a
broader perspective, doesn't it strike you as bizarre that they go after you
so viciously even though you're mild of manner? The rest of us dump on them
without reserve. That's why I believe their common bond is misogyny.

You could well be correct. I have been known to "give back" at times as
well, but always in response. I'm far from perfect, but also far from

Yes, 5 days together that's what you said. One when you jammed for a bit
then went shopping (good anecdote), four tour dates where you subbed for
some old banjo player who called in sick.

Yep, those were our professional dates. There were about 24 other days
together in CT, CA, and NV. Plus about 100 pages of emails and several

The other option that comes to mind is that they are like the
schoolyard bully who gets popped in the kisser. They always run home
crying to mommy. Since their real mothers (if they knew who they were)
probably disowned them years ago, Jenn serves as their surrogate.
The anger likely comes from being abandoned as children.

It amazes me how some can so easily discount and dismiss the talents and
achievements of someone like Paul Prestopino ("some old banjo player").
Presto was the sideman for the famous folkies The Chad Mitchell Trio,
John Denver (if one thinks of JD as a folkie), then PP&M. As great
multi-instrument folk sidemen go, there are really only three people in
the conversation: Pete Huttlinger, Eric Weissberg, and Presto.

LOL!!! You narrowed the criterie. Its the only solo version I know
of, so it is 'both the best and worst of
your constricted criteria. However, as a musical performance, compared
to
untold num, bers of them that I have seen, it was subpar, dull,
pedestrian and uninteresting. At the time, other people commented
similarly, they were unimpressed.
Anyway, this is not about him, its about you.
I am not your enemy, I am not attaqcking you.'You are most likely
]a talented person and a good person. I get thT form your
personal presentation here. But I also get thaT
you appear to be quite fawning at times.
I never here anything comparative form you.
Everybody you know, every miusicina you
have come across is so excellent and perfect and
\so worthy of your unlimited adoration. You never have
a critical thing to say of amyone who inhabits your spehere.
Taht makes you unbelievable, or at least appear to be
'a person of limited discernment.
Obviously, Juber is NOT a world class talent, making
music as he does, playiong the insipid
arrangekemnts he plays.
He is the Mantovani of solo acoustic guitar players.
It pains me that you are so smitten by him that you can't see it.

I really didn't want to consider that, because doing

Those were the tunes that I posted, IIRC, so I thought that you might
know solo recordings of them that you liked better. Let's widen it: Do
you like any solo acoustic guitar recordings? If so, what are they?
It's possible that you don't like the entire genre, and that's fine.
It's a niche market to be sure.

Oh, I could speak negatively about any number of people that I know and
work with. I just don't see the point of doing that. I would only
bring them up BECAUSE they have impressed me, and in the context of some
discussion here. I posted about Mary in response to someone else. Her
death touched me deeply, and I thought that it might be of interest to
some here to hear from someone who knew her. I posed about LJ because
of the sound of his self-produced recordings. I posted about Fred
because he conducted recordings that audio people "fawn over" in regards
to the sound. He was my mentor and I therefore have a unique view of
him compared to others here. I could post areas of disagreement that I
have with each of those people, but what's the point? I suspect that if
I did that, some loon would say, "Who are YOU to criticize another
artist?"

Others found it above average, brilliant, moving and engaging.
There did seem to be a correlation between years of musical training and
level of appreciation for the arrangements.

Jenn, I think Clyde uses the word "obviously" in the same context that
2pid does: "I have no clue but if I make an absolute statement perhaps
someone will believe me."
Clyde wouldn't know a world-class guitarist any more than he'd
recognize a military officer based on his postings. Clyde would need
to see a certificate that said "Bona Fide World-Class Guitarist"
before he'd believe it.
He only knows if he likes something. If he doesn't like it it can't be
world-class.
IOW, give Clyde's opinion all of the consideration it's due. :-)

Indeed. It IS very much a niche market. One of my concerns about it is
that we tend to play mostly for other guitarists. Most of us during our
audience banter (used mostly to cover tuning!) ask how many guitarists
there are in the audience. Very often, it's a majority of the audience.
Recordings sell in the thousands (by the great players), not the
millions. About half of our concerts take place in music stores,
seating 50-200. It's kind of a "coffeehouse" genre. Most of us play
something "flashy" and difficult in our sets because some audience
people expect that, but the majority of what we play is about getting
great tone; we obsess about that. A major part of the conversations
between us concerns what wood sounds like such-and-such, what builders
we like, string gauges, etc. We resemble orchestral string players in
this way.
Here are some videos of some SOTA players of the genre. Some I know
well, others I've only met and others I've not met at all:

I agree with you there, but the last time I called him out on it,
there were repercussions. Jimmy might be the rarest of birds, an
actual friend of Krooger in real life. I found Arny's Facebook face,
and he actually has friends. (Although most of them appear to be
family.) Oh, and I saw a pic of the lovely Susan. You wouldn't believe

I would have to agree wholeheartedly. It's hard to believe that this
type of anger comes from men who have meaningful interpersonal
relationships. The posting behaviors of people like PLF and Jimmy
reflect men who are bitter, alone and disgusted with the world (aka as
their failures within that world). The posting behaviors of married
people like Scott and Arny suggest that the relationship has
degenerated and there is no longer any real communication and intimacy
going on. Again, happy and fulfilled partners in a romantic union are
not lashing out at the world in this manner.

Juber is not a world class guitatrist, whatever that vague phrase
might mean. I have seen much better.
He is competent, but not musical.

duh... The praise being directed at Juber relates to the way he plays, not
what he plays. Do you remember when Jenn said she recognizes that I write
well? Scottie blew a doggie-fuse. It was beyond his limited intellect that
somebody could do something well and still not deliver pleasure to all who
observe it. This is very much the same distinction. Jenn explained in detail
that Juber, like the other technical virtuosos, usually play to the
expectations of a niche audience.
Your empty judgment is not relevant to the performances on youtube. If and
when Juber were to play to a large, general-interest audience, your
standards of evaluating musicianship might be pertinent.

All I remember is a performance which:
1. Wasn't acoustic
2. Wasn't fingerstyle
3. Wasn't solo
Otherwise it was a perfect comparison.

Better than above, more varied dynamics, feelings at time, but still
not enjoyable
loud, obnoxious and in your face.
Jenn, not everything is equally excellent
My order of preference is
Tommy Emanuel
Doug Smith']
Ed Gerhard
Al Petteway
Pete Huttinger
Tony McManus
Lawrence Juber
Andy Mc Keee
Your attitude reminds me
of President Obama's remarks on AMerican exceptionalism.
He believes in it as much as he believes in British Exceptionalism,
French
Exceptionalism, German Exceptionalism, Riussian Eceptionalism and as

exceptionalism
]We are all "Equally Exceptional!!!!!!

Doug is one of sweetest people I've ever known (opps! There I go
fawning again!). National Champion fingerstyle contest winner about 3
years ago. If I were to be stuck on a desert island forever with one
guitarist, I would probably chose him.

One of the best arrangements of a folk tune that I know. I play this
arrangement. Ed is a wonderful sensitive player and person.

Yeah, Celtic is a hit and miss thing for me. Plays other stuff great
too. I studied with him this past summer.

Fantastic player. John Denver's last sideman, now a soloist. No, many
of our style use a thumbpick; some use fingernails, some play "naked".

Yep. Worked on albums by all of the Beatles except Lennon. Can you
imagine the studios hiring someone who they don't consider to be the
best? Some credits: presently doing a Barry Manilow album, all the
James Bond movies the past 10 years or so, lots of Disney (Pocahantas,
etc.), Al Stewart, Good Will Hunting, Men in Black, Home Improvement,
Cleo Laine... obviously not a good musician.

OK, maybe someone will remember who they were.

Some musicality shows up at the two-minute mark. :-)

It's "Paper Moon" for crying out loud! The big band arrangement,
complete with the authentic bass line. Does he expect some rubato or
something?

These bozos aren't "conservative".
They're "control freaks".

I remember we had some mutual interests. For instance, we both like
Godspeed! You Black Emperor, much to my surprise. I also enjoy Peter
Gabriel, but then Scott took out my 180g pressing of "Security" and
asked why I would pay $30 for his worst album. First of all, I didn't
pay $30 for it since it was a review copy. Second, it's my favorite PG
album, so Scott's rather rash opinion was met with nothing but
disdain. Again, anyone who makes juvenile comments like that about
personal preferences is, well, a juvenile.
I think I may have teased Scott once or twice about his musical
tastes, but it was less about his preferences and more about the very
narrow scope of his tastes. My brother is like that...he has 6000 CDs,
but they're all basically the same genre. I don't necessarily consider
a person like that to be a true music lover.

Tell it to Paul McCartney, who no doubt should bow to you superior
insight. LMAO!

I have doubts you understand music. Please post your reume.

Is this a (not so subtle) McDonald's argument? LOL!

Many people think that Segovia sucked. What do you think? Who's "world-
class"? Ibsen? Parkening?
Certainly not Segovia, as many would agree that he sucks.
