I agree with scott. BUT sometimes soft vocals can be a tad dark no matter what
you do with some singers.

Not many Mac people around but I sure have found the Mcdsp compressor with the
dynamic EQ to be pretty neato.

I use Mac for recording and PC for games and internet and stuff, I'm getting a
used Dell this week-end that I'll use for most of the non pro audio, but I'm
sure that I'll try an see what the PC can do with some basic audio.

The top end on the C1 is already very tipped up. If you need it even more
tipped up, I'd consider trying different placement, or miking in a very
reflective place. Or I'd check the preamp. But if the C1 isn't hard enough
on top for you already, something is wrong somewhere.

I would switch to a brighter mic or preamp rather than try to do an 'exciter'
in software. Many many years ago I used to have an Aphex exciter & found the
need completely vanished when I upgraded to high end preamps.
