"It's a familier tune in the music biz: falling sales, angry artists and
Internet piracy. But Wind-up Records is winning by giving atrists and
fans what they want: more control over the music."

"The seven-year-old label, which has annual sales over $100 million,
even copyrighted its motto: “Developing Career Artists.”"

Really based on a few key artists. Creed and Evanescence being the biggest.
That said they have done a great job.

They need to sell about 7.5 million records a year worldwide to be a 100 mil
company.

if Creed keeps selling and Evaescence has another big album, they will keep the
streak going.

The truth is for every Boston in '76 there was way more disco and pop records
that were 1 hit wonders (wanted to write oneders).

Don't you feel that record labels in the past would hang in there with
an artist they believed in, even if they had an album or two that didn't
sell particularly well? That they'd give an artist time to develop and
blossom rather than dumping anyone who didn't hit it big out of the gate?

That's the general perception by a lot of people. Perhaps it's wrong.

How many people like Frampton who didn't have a hit record until a few
albums into their careers would never have had that hit in today's "get
the quick buck" market?

Regarding falling sales, one of the top news stories today is the fact that
prices are going to go way down now due to the slump caused by the pirates.
