View Full Version : PC conflict

I have an m-audio firewire 410 and Sonar and I'm thinking about
loading Pro Tools LE with the new M Box 2 Mini.

Does anyone think I might end up with potential hardware or software
conflicts. Digidesign owns m-audio but you know how it is in a large
company when the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing?

I can't afford to be down or chase problems with 2 similar devices for
my DAW.

Anybody have any experience down this path?

The two interfaces can't be simultaneously used by the same program, but
they should not conflict otherwise. Some programs have difficulty cleanly
switching interfaces without a restart; Cubase 4 has this problem.

I doubt you'll have a problem, but if you can't afford downtime, you can
afford
a second computer. They aren't that expensive.

The 401 seems a better unit than the MBox Mini so I assume you want to
continue using it? You'll have to install the MBox as a ProTools
"dongle" then ignore it, select the 410 as active device in ProTools.
I've seen reports of this being done successfully.

Or, if the performance of the MBox (just 2 channels, only one mic
input and no high sample rates) fits your needs, you could use it for
both ProTools and Sonar - it comes with ASIO and WDM drivers.

Or you could just plug in the MBox for ProTools, the 410 for Sonar.

Are there any particular features of ProTools LE that attract you?

Some projects need to be converted for the customer and some can stay
where I made them. Either way I use so many different software's and
effects I'm going to do a few new tunes in pro tools and I didn't want
to spend a whole lot of money just to see the difference. I'm hoping
to keep the 410 as my I/O device just for convienience so I'm hoping
pro-tools LE will still work inside Pro Tools.

Anyone know off the bat where to select teh I/O in pro tools?

I can also see that when I get a laptop I might take the M-Box when I
travel and use my guitar synth as a MIDI input. I play keyboards just
a well but the expression is better for me personally on the guitar.
Here's a link to something done without keyboards. Just click the
tune 'To Do Or Not To Do' http://dewittian.com/Prophet.html

Thanks for the help

Didn't get that one. Then again it's been a long week & I've hit burn
out. It's time for my nap.

I also wonder which driver people using the M-Box series interface
with a PC think works better, ASIO, WDM, or digidesign default for
smoother system control?
