View Full Version : Any reason not to passive mix?

I have a mic submix feeding a compressor and another single mic
feeding a another compressor. I need to mix the outputs of those 2
compressors the 10K input of a distribution amp. I have enough places
to adjust the gains relative to each other, so all I really need is
summing. I know I'll lose 6 dB if I sum them with 10K resistors. Is
there any reason not to compensate for the loss using the compressor
output level controls and save myself the cost of an active mixer?
Thanks, Andy

No, that's a perfectly reasonable approach. People need to do more of
that kind of thing, I think.
