One of my pair of MD441's has died. I bought these new in 1974.

It took a fall, and the case partly self-disassembled. I put it back
together and it worked fine for about five months.

I opened it up and found a really skinny loose wire at the presence
boost switch, and I think I have successfully resoldered that. (I say I
think because the mic still ain't working, while the solder joint looks
good and shows as conducting on a VOM.)

Any other pointers? Does Sennheiser service these? If they replace a
capsule is it still like the originals, or has it been "updated", like
the MD421 dis-asster?

Along with my pair of Schoeps, these are my most favored mics.

Sennheiser still services them. Not only that, they still make them. And
thankfully they have not "updated" them like the MD421. Ask them to return
all parts they replace, though, when you send it up to Old Lyme.

They are some of the best dynamic mikes ever made.

Hey, 35 years old and dropped and you wonder why it doesn't work? <g>

Yes, they repair any of their mics, and the price is (relatively)
reasonable. It's not
like you're paying extra to get original factory service. I don't recall
any update
to the MD441, but don't expect to get a 35 year old capsule in your mic
if that's
what they have to replace.
