Hi, audio fans! I'm looking into cheap utility dvd players for my tv
systems. For my ancient Sony CRT I'm considering the Sony DVP-SR200P. I
gather it has some Phillips elements and outputs DTS but has no fancy
video connectors.

For the Toshiba LCD, the Toshiba SD-6100 has HDMI which just about does
it for requirements.

Any experiences or opinions of these players?

I don't have any experience with this particular unit, but one thing
that I accidentally discovered (you may already know this): many of
these players have DTS turned OFF by default and you need to change this
in the DVD setup. I wasted much time with my cheapie Panasonic DVD
player trying to figure out why I would only get a stereo signal when
I'd opt for the DTS soundtrack on a DVD.

I would expect that the unit you are considering would be just fine for
a CRT TV setup. That's exactly what I've got currently: a decent
surround setup coupled with a stone-age Sony 32" CRT. I haven't bought a
new TV because I'm dreading trying to move this thing!

Good to know about the dts. I figure a non-upconverting player might
delay the purchase of an expensive new monitor.

I was surprised to find a huge Lowe display at the local Goodwill for
only $200. The clerk explained it took a while to sell because it
weighed 200 pounds.

This is the player I have been using as a utility DVD player:

"Pioneer DV-310 Slim Multi-Format DVD Player Featuring USB and DivX¿
Playback"

If you are interested in a HDMI output, the DV-400 is a similar player with
HDMI output.
