Anybody used a Yamaha LS9 console for recording Jazz or Classical?
Any thoughts on how it sounded? Thanks

probably sounds fine. my trio's live record was done with a pm5d and
it came out very well. that was way overkill but it was what the hall
had installed for a video shoot they were doing that week unrelated to
my evening, so i took advantage of it's presence. I just used their
snake to run my mics to the console and took direct outs over
lightpipe into my pro tools le rig. it worked just swimmingly and
sounded very good except for the spots where the foh guy was adjusting
pads and channel trims during the show even though i told him to not
touch a damn thing.

PS I've been seeing ls9's at both monitors and FOH on lots of
festivals lately and I'm very impressed with the capability and sound
quality of such a tiny board. and the guys running the rigs have been
raving about how much they like working on them.

I use them all the time...that and the M7. I'm not sure I can define
them as being good or bad for anything. The functionality is decent to
great, the pre's sound relatively good and are quiet. The channels have
Comps and EQ's on them. You can matrix zones and automate any mix. The
LS9-32 is easier to use because of the size than the LS9-16...but the 16
is exactly the same electronics and boards as the 32.
What are you choices beyond the LS9?

I am recording a jazz trio probably max of 12 channels. The LS9 would be my
front end and monitor into my 002R system. If I do the sessions analog I
would use Benchmark and Mackie preamps into the 002R
