View Full Version : AV RECEIVER Question
I just bought a plasma HDTV and want to hook it up to an AV receiver
that I bought a few years ago.
I'm not sure if it is going to get the best sound from the HD.
It is the ONKYO TX-SR602.
Does anybody know if it is compatible with my new HDTV?
I heard that if my receiver doesn't have HDMI than it won't get the
complete HD sound.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I assume you mean to take the audio output of the TV into the receiver.
Provided the TV has a true digital audio output (probably optical) you
should get identical sound to the HDMI. Just associate this output with the
desired input on the receiver (TV, Video 1, DTV, whatever it's called).
You may need to refer to your receiver owners manual. Modern receivers have
rather complicated functions. Even techs like me often have to educate
ourselves for a particular function by reading the owners manual...
