Scooter, I think your mindless barking about politics is masking a
question you need to ask. For some reason, you're unable to bark your
question using the keyboard. Are you perhaps suffering from Canine
Interrogatory Inhibition Syndrome? If so, be advised that leading doggie
shrinks say the syndrome cannot be overcome by continuing to make a lot of
barking noise. The recommended therapy is a few minutes of introspection
twice a day. The best time is right after feeding, since pooches get
drowsy anyway and temporarily stop yapping. Do you need some help in
learning how to do introspection? Here are some guidelines that are simple
enough for any doggie to follow.
1. Start with a simple question: "At whom am I directing my barking?"
I expect you won't be able to answer this question easily, since you
rarely bark in the direction of a specific human. You might try focusing
on whether you're aiming at one of the groups you hate, like "the
Mexicans" or "the Gays".
2. Next, go on to a basic "why" question: "Why should they listen to my
yapping?"
The answer to this one may surprise you. (That is, assuming you were
joking when, in the past, you claimed to be 'smart'.)
3. The third question in the basic series is pragmatic: "What do I hope to
accomplish?"
Don't make the mistake of answering this question in reference to those at
whom you direct your barking. This is, after all, an exercise in
introspection. The correct route to enlightenment is to identify which of
*your own* feelings of inadequacy you are hoping to remediate. Is it your
insecurity about the whiteness of your neighborhood? Your feeling of
inferiority about your inability to communicate effectively? Your feeling
of rejection by your own people because you had to send away for a
mail-order Mexican woman to bear your children?
Do let us know how this first introspection exercise works out for you.
I'm sure any of the RAO Normals will offer you the support you need in
this trying ordeal.

I found 2pid's trashing of "the will of the people" quite a urprise.
It turns out that these vites 2pid keeps braying about are just a way
to impose someone's will on sombody else. According to 2pid the whole
SSM vote is an attempt to control others.
That's why 2pid is afraid of having a vote on RAO.
It also shows that Calvin nailed 2pid regarding the fact that the only
reason 2pid hangs around here is to be an asshole.

Anyone who doubts the ill will from Scott and Bratzi need only go to
Google Groups. Their off-topic posting really does crowd out legitimate
threads there.

Yes, apparently ScottieDog believes that's his 'right' as a free citizen.
Not that it isn't a 'right', of course. But let's just say the result
would be different if this were a real gathering of real people who wanted
to talk about something they're really interested in.

It's the google groups format. Open up the first page and often what
you'll see is a dozen or so bratzi threads starters with no responses
and/or a bunch of your off-topic posts.

Living in the U.S.A (CEMA Special Markets) overlaps a few titles (plus
"The Joker) and sounds okay but not great. Of course, it could have the
same mastering. The package is copyright 1995.
Hoffmanites will prefer the Greatest Hits 1974-1978 DCC gold CD.

Don't use the Hoffman Forum as a resource for anything. More decent
mastering engineers have been chased out of that place than I care to
remember. It's like the Jonestown of audio forums.

I wouldn't write it off completely, but one should retain a healthy
skepticism. Yes, I've seen the atrocities (Ron Stone, Ron Furmanek, etc)
but I also saw Bobby Whitlock go from answering a casual question to
writing a book.

As Jenn once asked you: why are you incapable of accurately quoting

don't offer your own.)

A strawman? I don't know, Mr. "I prefer good discussions over

Pretty weak stuff that doesn't include the one really bad thing I've
heard about him. Despite Davis, Hoffman doesn't transfer flat.
One of the more amusing corrections the Forumites received was when
respected mastering engineer Trautgott contradicted the "old masterings
didn't have eq" truism widely accepted there. Came as a surprise to me,
but I'm open to new information.
Skepticism is always called for in such a forum.

Well, I'm reluctant to diss the guy, especially since I just listened
to 3 new jazz remasters he and Kevin Gray did and found them to sound
absolutely wonderful. He's an industry figure who definitely polarizes
people, though.

Oops! Probably Barry Diament.

Have you heard any of the latest Diament recordings? Very strange
sound, IMO.

That's silly. They have four songs in common IIRC and each cover
pre-"Fly Like an Eagle" time.

Amazon info isn't always friendly for collectors.

No, I haven't...The mp3 samples linked from his website sound like
rehearsal tapes. That's one kind of "you are there"!

I have a Rockplast DVD of Little Feat
I have seen loads of live concerts, and Spirit stands right at the
very top,
the best live performance i have seen in my life
It was 1968, in the Wheaton Youth Center.
The week after Led Zep's famous show, the one
where only 10 people showed up.
The audience for spirit must have been 500 to 1000

I'd be embarrassed if I thought I was comparing "Living In The U.S.A" to
Greatest Hits 74 to 78 or whatever the title is. Try again, this time
remembering the topic is "Anthology" on cd.
Trots would apologize if he made such a mistake as you just did. Or
maybe not.
Stephen
PS Oh, nevermind, you'd just find an excuse to get out of discovering
your error.
Anthology
1. "I Love You" (Miller)
2. "Going To The Country" (Miller, Sidran)
3. "Baby's House" (Hopkins, Miller)
4. "Kow Kow" (Miller)
5. "Your Saving Grace" (Davis, Miller, Sidran)
6. "Going To Mexico" (Miller, Scaggs)
7. "Space Cowboy" (Miller, Sidran)
8. "Living In The U.S.A." (Miller)
9. "Journey From Eden" (Miller)
10. "Seasons" (Miller, Sidran)
11. "Motherless Children" (Traditional)
12. "Never Kill Another Man" (Miller)
13. "Don't You Let Nobody Turn You Around" (Miller)
14. "Little Girl" (Miller)
15. "Celebration Song" (Miller, Sidran)
16. "My Dark Hour" (Miller)
Living In The U.S.A.
1. "Living in the U.S.A." (Miller)
2. "Space Cowboy" (Miller/Sidran)
3. "Don't Let Nobody Turn You Around" (Miller)
4. "The Joker" (Miller)
5. "Gangster of Love" (Watson)
6. "The Lovin' Cup" (Miller)
7. "Quicksilver Girl" (Miller)
8. "Your Saving Grace" (Davis)
9. "Motherless Children" (Trad. arr. Miller)
10. "Mary Lou" (Jessie/Ling)
Let's take a look: "Living in the U.S.A."; "Space Cowboy"; "Don't You
Let Nobody Turn You Around"; "Your Saving Grace"; "Motherless Children".
Okay, I apologize for saying there were four songs in common. There are
five.

Jeez. Now I get it. In my post I mentioned these two things: I listened
to Living In The USA; and Hoffman forumites would prefer the
Hoffman-master Greatest Hits. That last bit was sort of a joke.
I'll try not to be so confusing in the future.

To further muddy the waters:

&blogId=201258428>
This a discussion of the mastering techniques used for the King Biscuit
"The Steve Miller Band: On Tour 1973..1976".
New ambience triggered by old drum tracks! I hope it sounds good. And
more:
"This is a sure way to lose TDM DSP power. Using more AudioSuite
plug-ins to process selected audio files ahead of time frees up so much
DSP in a session. Sometimes I'll find myself using seven or eight
plug-ins per track, especially with vocals where I typically might end
up with some kind of mic modeling, de-essing, EQ, compression, limiting,
and other effects. If I process each of those plug-ins one at a time
with AudioSuite, then I have so much more DSP leftover to allocate to my
other plug-ins for the mix."

There's still plenty of outboard gear in studios, so I'd guess there's
room for DSP innovation.
