Scottie, I hope you're rejoicing. Your beloved republicans are dead-set on
throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The dirty water in this case is
the UAW contracts that GM and Chrysler are saddled with. (Never mind why
those contracts are in place. That's irrelevant to the ideologues.) The
senate republicans' primary objective in this crisis is to roll back wages
and unemployment benefits. They are determined to accomplish their objective
even if it means throwing the domestic auto industry into turmoil. (That's
the baby, i.e. the part of the toss-out that you want to keep.)
Ideology over pragmatism. It's the GOP way.
