View Full Version : Note to 2pid and GOIA
Shhhh! I'm Listening to Reason!
December 6th 08, 09:31 PM
I'm going with my girlfriend to see Yusef Lateef tonight.
I thought GOIA would be interested since it shows that I have a couple
of things he doesn't have: a love of interesting music and the love of
an independent, beautiful and intelligent woman.
And I thought 2pid would want to know. Since Lateef is a Muslim and
has been since the 1950s, can there be any doubt that the proceeds
from the show are going directly into Osama bin Laden's pockets? I
decided that potentially funding some massive bomb or something in
Southern California was less important to me than seeing a musical
legend. I don't know anybody in the San Diego area, so I could care
less. Is something that doesn't affect me real? Who's to say.
Anyway, I thought you should both know

Or Barack Hussein Obama's, since he's a secret Muslim terrorist.

Lateef provided a new definition of "free jazz" for me. That was well
worth seeing, even considering the possibility of the money ending up
in the "wrong" hands. Fascinating percussion, intricate interplay
between the musicians, and interesting folk instrumentation including
a digeredoo (sp?) and African flutes.
IOW, 2pid and GOIA would have hated it.

Is he the guy formerly in African band Superetoile in the 1980's?
the Senegalese musician?
I would go see him, but
as far as putting money in the wronng hands, I still
won't go see Madonna, even if I liked her music.

No, Lateef is one of the very few early jazz guys still around, a
contemporary of Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley.
He also played with Kenny Burrell, who is one of my favorite jazz
guitarists.
