DATE: Saturday September 20, 2008
TIME: 10 AM Until ?
FORMAL MEETING: 4 PM
COHOST: George Marutz
HOST: Tom Nousaine
*** AUTOSOUND CONTEST STARTS AT 10:00 AM ***

AUTOSOUND TWEAKING: David Clark's PTF measurement equipment will be

adjustments prior to the contest. Tuning will be in the driveway.
DEMO & LECTURE: Steve Ponte from SVS will set up a 5.1 system and give a
talk on the system.
SIDE SHOW: Mike McLean submitted an "amateur" recording of Stravinsky Rite
of Spring. The recording was made by professional mastering engineer Bob Bob
Ohlsson. It is single-point AKG C24 mike and no signal processing. The
dynamics and naturalness are impressive. A good model for SMWTMS moving
ahead in the world of earbuds.
PROGRAM: ANNUAL AUTOSOUND CONTEST XXVI: Awarding the Martin Marth Memorial
Prize
AUTOSOUND CONTEST JUDGING: Judging will be in the driveway. As in recent
years the contest the judge will be objective. Cars will be judged solely on
PTF (Perceptual Transfer Function) measurements. PTF includes, tonal balance
(frequency response), maximum SPL, and maximum bass SPL. A points system
will produce the final score: 5 points Tonal Balance; 0.1 point/dB for SPL
over 100 dB SPL @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point/dB for 40 to 100 Hz average SPL
over 100 dB @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point per Hz for extension below 40 Hz
(-6dB from target). Prizes have been supplied by Road Gear, Tom Nousaine,
and if need be, the proceeds of the SMWTMS Martin Marth Auction, a distinct
account within the SMWTMS treasury.
AUTOSOUND CONTEST RULES: The autosound contest rules are unchanged. The
rules are: 1) No charge for entering the autosound contest; 2) Non-members
must join SMWTMS for 2008 to enter the autosound contest; 3) Frivolous
entries may be rejected by the judges; 4) Time permitting, tuning for best
PTF score may be attempted. New this year is two prize categories: maximum
bass SPL; and best spectral balance.
