View Full Version : The Golden Ear
Anybody here have one or know of a technical paper that has tested
such people? By this I mean people who claim they can hear up to 25kHz
and know when wires are thicker or gold plated etc...

Over the years, the various active DBT advocates including myself have
tested many such people. When levels are matched, the music is synched, and
the comparison is free of bias, there are simply no golden ears. There are
even many people who profess to be golden ears whose actual ability to
discern subtle differences is worse than average.
BTW, gold plating copper wire does not improve its conductivity, because the
conductivity of gold is far worse than that of pure copper.

Prove it!
We have no proof that you ever tested anybody.

First "Art", prove that you exist. I think most people noticed that when the
Middiot stopped posting here for about a week, so did you.

It's a scientific fact that certain humans can hear as high as 25-28
kHz, mostly women, and mostly young. All you need to prove this is a
suitable driver, a HP 200CD and a Morse code key or other switch that
is convenient. The test is if they can raise their hand or otherwise
indicate if they hear or don't hear the tone if the circuit is closed
or open.
Whether that translates into audiophile virtue is another question
entirely.

Agreed - hearing isolated tones has questionable relevance to listening to
music.
Most people can hear pure tones at amazingly high frequencies if the tone is
loud enough. The experience may be more like sensing than hearing, but it
can be reliable.
More to the point when listening to music, is the frequency at which a
brickwall filter becomes audible. For most people, even those with very good
hearing, this starts around 16 KHz. Since the audio CD format puts the brick
wall at 22 KHz, there isn't a problem due to it.
BTW it is masking, not raw ability to hear tones in isolation, that is the
better predictor of effective audibility.

Insane people are well-known to talk like that. There's a certain kind of
backwards rationality to it - either they are insane and everybody else is
sane, or vice-versa.

The funny part is that Arny has always claimed that his website trains
people how to listen, but at the same time he says there are no golden
ears. For the most part, these people with golden ears ARE people who
have been trained to listen properly. Therefore, ABXism is snake oil,
and Arny just admitted it.

In this context, a golden ear would be someone who "who claim they can know
when wires are ... gold plated etc."
I've already pointed out that gold plating copper wire is futile because
gold has less conductivity than copper. The thickness of plating is so small
compared to speaker wire that it is immaterial, anyhow.

People who know how to listen properly as a rule know better than to make
the sort of rediculous claims that golden ears affect.

In fact, the Krooborg's beloved torture box has never been proven
effective. The only "evidence" of its efficacy forthcoming from the
'borgs is that when victims are hooked up to an aBxism device, they
lose their ability to listen Normally.
In the face of this evidentiary vacuum, the Krooborg continues to
insist that aBxism is somehow "valid" for audiophiles. There's a word
for belief in things not seen: religion.

Leaving aside your weak attempt at "IKYABWAI", let's examine your
claim. Insane people tend to think they're the only sane people in the
room. They think everybody else is insane.
I do not think that I am the only sane person in the room. Likewise, I
do not think that everybody else in the room is insane. 2pid and nob,
for example, not insane: are just exceedingly stupid. Bratzi, for
example, is not insane: he is just pure evil.
So your argument is not logically valid. Most of your arguments are
not, which is (of course) another sign of insanity.
GOIA, many, if not most, of the people in the room believe you to be
unhinged. You are the lone person claiming that you are sane. Doesn't
that tell us something? ;-)

Mister Krooborg has repeatedly demanded proof that he means anything
he says. In the absence of such proof, Arnii is entitled, under
"debating trade" rules, to believe that nothing he says has any basis
in reality.
Does this make you a bit confused? That's a sure sign of insanity. ;-)

Clearly insanity is a big concern of yours - no doubt due to personal
expereince.

One problem here is that we do not know who Krooborg is, or what this
alleged torture device actually is.
> The only "evidence" of its

Another problem is that the word Normally is capitalized, which suggests
that the word Normal is not intended to have its common meaning. From past
posts we can determine that the Middiot thinks that it is Normal. This
provides additional evidence that the meaning of the word Normal is intended
to be very esoteric.

Again, the absence of a formal definition for the esoteric word aBxism
prevents the sentence from being understood by most people.

Redefintion of the meaning of common words is a tactic that is commonly used
by anti-intellectual cults such as Scientism.

Delusions of omniscience noted. In fact you don't even know how many people

Hearing isolated tones is irrelevant to the ear's ability to hear high
harmonics in music.

Yup. It's me and George.
The conspiracy has been victorious! LOL!

Now you're taking my well-earned glory from me and attributing it to
Bratzi. I want my fair share.

I see nobody leaping to your defense now. Perhaps the conspiracy drove
off everybody who knows you to be sane.

If the question of your insanity was a matter of "opinion" perhaps
your erroneous claim might have some validity.
Oh well.

Perhaps the thought of it has given you PTSD. I'm fine, but thanks for
asking.

Ah. So if I say "yes" you claim "See?" If I say no, you claim
"Denial!"
Have you stopped raping 12-year-old boys yet, GOIA? ;-)

There is but one here who cannot join the sane group. I leave it to
you to figure it out. ;-)

GOIA is loved, respected, admired, and sought-out on those other
groups.
He is hoping that all the "insane" ;-) people here will do likewise if
he ****s here often enough.

Please define "everybody". It's really a sign of insanity to make
large generalizations based on the opinions of a few. LOL!
(I'll bet GOIA misses the irony of this statement.)

I think the ones you gotten are far funnier. George doesn't pretend to
be an 'expert'.

Fake ignorance (or perhaps real ignorance) ignored.

And me. As I said, I want my credit too. Who you blame for the
"demise" of RAO seems to shift with the wind. And yet you *always*
miss the main culprit. ;-)

Isn't it funny how GOIA tries to divert attention away from his own
issues?
Now *I'm* insane and paranoid. LOL!

Ah, the old sockpuppet accusation.
Art is me, Boon is George, JA runs all of us.
Please keep it straight.
