What exactly happens when you connect
an RNC into both Mbox inserts? This is
essentially two mono signals, and in my
case two different mics, but I do
not notice any obvious sonic anomalies.

The RNC is a stereo compressor. Any compression triggered by one channel
will compress both channels.
Not really what you would want running two mono signals.
Hell, they're so inexpensive, why not buy two of them? Pick one up from
Fletcher over at Mercenary in one of those cool FunkLogic racks.

That's the problem with a transparent sounding compressor. <g>
