Rebuilt piece of junk. Most spare parts regarless of source or price
belong to that category.

Used. I think..
Because I bought a regurbished ipod from apple.com, and that meant it
was used and someone took it back, and it was fixed.

It's a unit that's been restored to original factory specs. It might not be
cosmetically perfect, but it is functionally like new, and often carries a
full warranty.
These days, with regard to electronics, a refurbished unit is most likely
one that's been returned to the store by the customer, either because it was
defective, or because the purchaser decided they didn't like it. It goes
back to the manufacturer. If it's defective it'll be repaired. Otherwise
it gets cleaned up, and goes through inspection/testing to make sure it
functions as new.
It could also refer to a piece that didn't pass final inspection and was
sent back to fix whatever caused it to not pass muster the first time.
Computers might be a slightly different story, as they might be
institutional units that were "traded in". In that case, the mechanical
parts, like the hard drive, probably will have some miles on them. But
that's not a big issue these days, as drives have become much more reliable,
and lifespans have increased dramatically in recent years.

For me?
Refurbished Insignia subamp and two woofers from Overstock.com
means one speaker is defective, the manufacturer is slow to respond
and Overstock doesn't have any stock left.

Buyer beware.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but here goes. I am totally
against buying any kind of speaker or sub USED OR REFURBISHED. I mean
how many times do you see in description "Never pushed hard" or "never
turned up loud". Give me a freaking break. Why would someone buy a set
of subs and never was curious on how hard they hit. Or never turned it
up when they saw a group of girls walking down the street. I mean
PPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAAASSSSEEEE! Now I know there are going to be people
in here flaming me by saying they have never had any kind of problem
with there used speakers and subs. Claiming it's just the kind of
brand you buy or if you know the person selling them or what ever. Or
if you just bought a set of subs off of eBay and never had a problem.
Good for you and I only wish I or anyone I know could be that lucky.
But for my money I just prefer to go the new rout.

Yeah, because we all know how much women respond to bass that's booming,
indistict, droning, and too loud compared to the rest of the frequency
spectrum. And they especially love it when it rattles the trim on the car.

Overstock.com took care of my problem and went above and beyond
anything expected of them. I am very satisfied with their response.
