How good are SSL series E mic pres?

I saw the following auction( not mine ) and thought that this would be a
very nice and convenient unit for doing live recording to a 24 track HD
recorder. It's out of the question for me due to the cost ( I'm just window
shopping ) but at about $250 per channel it seems like a good deal if the
pres sound decent.

I think the only problem with this auction is that 24 pre´s is too much.
If you want a different flavour, then maybe 4 of these would be nice for
say $1k, but who really needs 24?
As for their sound, I can´t say!
