View Full Version : Howard Ferstler drops in - for a moment
Howard Ferstler
January 24th 08, 08:35 PM
Hello, Group,
I dropped in and was prepared to see the "regulars" in
action, and was also prepared to come up with one of my
usual canned phrases and say how "shocked" I was to see all
of those regulars in action in the usual, incomprehensibly
inane way.
However, given the type of people who involve themselves
with "serious" audio these days I should not be shocked at all.
And I am not. Soldier on, pinheads.

I assume you are referring to the Paradigm X-30 outboard
electronic crossover network.
Well, if you are high-pass filtering to the speakers and not
using a subwoofer then obviously you will not get an
improvement in bass response. If you do use a subwoofer (at
least a good one) then obviously you will get an improvement
in bass response, assuming the sub is sited properly and the
levels properly set.
A decent electronic crossover should not have any negative
impact on the imaging or depth of the satellite speakers.
However, if the sub/sat balance is improperly adjusted the
result might be a sense of bloatedness that cuts into the
feeling of spaciousness.
I believe that the Outlaw subwoofers were built by, or at
least designed by, Poh Ser Hsu. I have no idea who
configured the SMS for them, nor have I reviewed that item.
If Velodyne has some kind of relationship with Outlaw it is
news to me. However, I have been out of the loop for some
time and so just about any news is news to me.

"At least" you admit that your comments are "canned," and therefore
utterly devoid of any value to others. I think retiring from a
profession where you were constantly ridiculed and deplored has agreed
with you, Howard.

While they think they are ridiculing others, the stupidity of their posts
effectively ridicules them.

What matters most when you are being "ridiculed and
deplored" is who is doing the ridiculing and deploring. And,
believe me, being ridiculed and deplored by the likes of you
and the other goofballs in this group is anything but a
badge of dishonor.
As for my comments within the realm of audio being of value
(here, I assume you are referring to my published materials,
as well as to my numerous commentaries within this group in
the old days), I have no problem at all with those comments
being useless to the lunatic fringe. However, I assume
(given what I have read from other sources, including
individuals who lament my getting out of the audio
journalism business) that at least a number of sane
individuals (rare at the rao address, but some probably pop
in once in a while) got certain benefits from my opinions.
That you are still here (month after month, and for that
matter, apparently year after year) interjecting comments
within this group says more about you than you obviously
realize. Ditto for many of the other weak-minded old timers
within the group.
Get a life, pinhead.
PS: While I am retired, two of my reviews, and hopefully one
commentary column, are still scheduled to appear in an
upcoming issue of The Sensible Sound. So goes long lead
times in audio journalism.

Good point. Still, I continue to wonder why you hang around
with and butt heads with these back biters. In spite of you
and him being at odds much of the time, I wonder the same
thing about John Atkinson. Both of you guys must have better
things to do than duke it out with Middius and his peers.
Well, Atkinson appears to be obsessed with duking it out
with you, which seems, well, a bit odd for a guy who is
supposedly a major audio journalist. Well, maybe it helps
him sell magazines. No doubt he has a need to do that.

It isn't anything. This is an Internet newgroup, which amounts to
less than nothing in the audio world. It's like Vegas...what happens
here, stays here.

Hope springs eternal, Howard. That's why I get blank stares whenever
I mention your name to movers and shakers in the audio world, people
even you look up to. You didn't make your mark in the audio world,

I think we figured out last time that over the last few years, your
posting frequency far outpasses mine. The only difference is this: I
move on when I have work to do, and you move on when you've been
utterly humiliated again.

are you doing these days? Let see...

And yet my articles sometimes appear two or three weeks after I've
written them. Try writing for a real publication. For instance, as
we speak I'm writing a review for an album that won't come out until
February 5. The issue comes out on February 6. The last time I
checked on TAV, they were writing about albums nearly a year old.

Except Boonie that you're the one who goes down for the count. Time after
time after time. A few weeks of your flash in the pan, and you're gone. I'm

Just guessing, but I see an allusion to Tom Nousaine.
Reading between the lines, it would seem that Tom has left a mark on the
Middiot/Atkinson et al posse that just won't go away. He's probably more
highly respected and more often read than the whole Stereophile clique.

I think you mean "Stereophile staff", at least if you're referring to
John, Michael, and the others who work at the magazine. (Yes, I realize
you might be wandering in one of your paranoid fantasy-worlds.)
BTW, I'm not going to remind you that your mental illness is embarrassing.

Quite the encomium, Mr. Krueger. Yet Sound & Vision, the
magazine Tom Nousaine contributes speaker measurements
to, has seen a catastrophic decrease in circulation, from
>400,000 to <200,000, in the past 2 years, has suffered
swingeing staff cuts, and Mr. Nousaine's contributions
have been reduced considerably.By contrast, Stereophile's
circulation has increased by 2% 2006-2007, to 75,300. This
despite a prediction from Mr. Nousaine in 2002 that
Stereophile would soon go out of business :-)

everyone hates your guts. It didn't work the previous 500 times

That's the usual meaning of words in parenthesis in a quote - they were
added by the person making the quote. So here we have an example of what
Atkinson thinks is a lie - standard editing punctuation.
> If he wished it them to

OK, now we get another one of Atkinson's definition of a lie - any error in
spelling and punctuation one may happen to make. It appears that in Atkinson
world only writing with perfect spelling and punctuation is true. Misspell a
word or fail to get your punctuation right and you are, apparently according
to Atkinson, a habitual liar.
Here's what I would have written if I was using the spelling and punctuation
that Atkinson approves of:

Thank you for making the correction, Mr. Krueger.
Now that wasn't so hard, was it. The next step,
now that your editorial interjections have been
correctly identified, is for readers to judge for
themselves whether your editorial deletions and
omissions have altered the meaning of the
original text. For comparison, here is what I
originally wrote:
"Sound & Vision, the magazine Tom Nousaine
contributes speaker measurements to, has seen
a catastrophic decrease in circulation, from [more
than] 400,000 to [less than] 200,000, in the past 2
years, has suffered swingeing staff cuts, and Mr.
Nousaine's contributions have been reduced
considerably. By contrast, Stereophile's circulation
has increased by 2% 2006-2007, to 75,300."
Rather different in meaning, as I am sure readers will
see for themselves.

The relevant facts I claim - Nousaine is more widely respected, more
respected in professional circles, and more widely-read than Stereophile's
writers.

Arny, you *regularly* make statements that something or the other has
been demonstrated or proven, that are clearly lies, because what you
claim is not supported AT ALL by logic.
Everyone makes errors of logic on occasion, but some of your errors
are so egregious that they can, IMO, only be driven by dishonesty.
From my vantage point, it's clear that you feel that your dishonest
claims are justified because your attackers do it as well, and you
feel the need to, in return, attack and antagonize, even when it is
not justified on the specific point.
Mind you, I don't think you're "below average" for this group, in this
regard, and I agree with you on most technical issues. But you're
certainly no angel, either. There's a reason why you have so many
detractors, and it's not just that you're an "objectivist".

was not moved by Arny's statement: "But they should be able to sleep

Sorry, its a consistent 'floater'.
He alleged he received it, then
he admitted to keeping the' supposed' kiddie porn on his
hard drive for three years.
Nobody was 'accusing' him, we were repeating
his 'own' admissions. At any
rate, the statements about his possessing it were true, n'est pas?
Of course, if he never had the kiddie porn,
then he merely was lying about it, and willfully
falsely accusing a bunch of people of sending it.
So what is it?
Did Arny keep it on his hard drive for three years, or ws he lying?
As far as my bringing it up again, its fair game,
because I was responding to Arny's claim of veracity
on RAO.

I am allowed to show that Arny is a liar

Because they were probably illegal

the real answer is twofold.
First, When Arny is caught in further lies,
or when Arny challenges us with claims of his veracity,
it will be illustrated agian.
Second, when a new poster shows up
in his so-called 'posse' hehehe,
he needs to shown exactly what kind of character he is dealing with.

The amazing thing was that Arny came dangerously close to going to
jail. He now has a file with local law enforcement, and they kept
surveillance on him for a while. All this because Arny couldn't admit
that he lied on the Internet.
That's the truth of the matter right there.

Boy, that's a stupid claim, even for you, Scooter. The harassment came
from Lyin' Bwian. You know -- RAO's other insane playmate. Phoebe isn't
devious enough to put someone up to that.

Wait a second ... earlier today you said RAO's biggest problem is all the
posts about how ****ty Krooger is. Now you're saying that the worst part
of RAO is when crazy people take their arguments outside RAO?

Meaning? Arny don't need no stinkin' meaning. If it is yours, not his,
that is.
Arny has long shown he has no integrity when it comes to quoting others.
This is just one particularly egregious example of how he *edits*.

I'd be inclined to go with the syphillis theory. Every few months, I
come on here and engage Arny in some sort of debate, and every time
his responses grow weaker and more feeble. I know I've talked about
this before, but it's no "debating trade" strategy. Arny's brain is
slowly decaying from spending years of his life on the Internet. If
you're here all the time, you may or may not notice it, but I do.
This thread is strange because Arny's only defense to being called a
liar is to say, "No I'm not, you are!"
Many of us have harbored bad thoughts about Arny. It seems ironic
that the worst damage is self-inflicted.

Maybe so, but Krooger revealed that he met with an "undercover" kiddie

Boonie is talking 100% out the back of his neck. Anybody who thinks that the
MSP is going to tell Boonie anything is nuts. If they did, I could sue. The
only people they can talk to the public about is people who were convicted.
Boonie certainly has 10 or more times as many convictions for sex-related
issues as I do, if you know what I mean. Ten times zero is zero.

You didn't consider that possibility because you always knew deep down
that Arny was lying about the kiddie porn, and he was lying about the
MSP. I mean, who contacts the state police about being sent kiddie
porn? Why didn't Arny contact the police in his town? (I actually
know the reason for THAT.) Why didn't Arny contact the FBI, who
usually handles these matters?
Arny's story stunk to high heaven from the beginning. This was all
just an exercise to see how far Arny would go to weasel out from
admitting he lied. Even the local authorities said so, which is why
they didn't show up at his house (at least to my knowledge). They
clearly saw Arny for what he is...another Internet loser who doesn't
have a real life.
BTW, Arny's whole confidentiality argument stands up, except in cases
of child pornography or molestation. If what Arny said was true, we
would have never found out about Pete Townshend. The police can be
very forthcoming about such things, since people get riled up about
having pedophiles in their midst. Whenever children are involved,
habeus corpus can get thrown out the window, which is why children can
be taken away from their parents without even circumstantial
evidence. The entire sordid affair was on public record if you knew
where to look.
Remember, Arny threatened to name me as an accomplice unless I did
report him. I was pretty relieved when I discovered many others
already had. Remember Jamie? He had a whole group going. He tried
to enlist George and me, but we figured out what a nutcase he really
was. That's when Jamie started challenging me to street fights in
alleys in Brooklyn. You know, people like Arny and Howard are sad,
but they look like amateurs compared to people like Jamie and Brian,
who really do try to **** with people's real lives.
