Listening to Avril Lavigne - Knockin on heaven's door, I am trying to work
out what effects are used on the vocals, there are soft background vocals
everytime she sings, like a 'ooohhhh' is there also reverb of some kind ? I
presume the vocals are also compressed? Any help on this appreciated as im
trying to get myself trained to what effects have been applied to vocals.

I'm sure a lot of people would like to help you, but then they'd have to listen
to the cover. It is *the* Knockin on heaven's door, right?

Yes, Avril's version of Knocking on heaven's door, the reason i chose this
version is because the other artists are all male and im interested in
female vocals.

Damn, I thought Gn'R screwed it up enough already. Now this hack?
Write your own stuff Avril - what you've already done rocks, don't
ruin it with a lousy cover.
As far as I'm concerned, there was always only ONE KOHD - the others
are FM static to me.

Going on what I've heard of her live and what people who have worked with
her in the studio have told me, I'd say it's probably mostly auto-tune!
Bleah!

Are you sure, can you hear this in the song ? It sounds pretty natural to me
unless you can explain what i am listening for. An example of over autotune
(I think) is "Kid Rock - Only God Knows Why".

Pretty natural?
You must have been listening to a very different version than I just heard!

Well, if it's not autotune, than it's Yamaha FX500 compressor/ flanger
combination.

I'm interested in females that don't sing.
