i'm reading rumours on the 'net that digi is skimping on parts on some
of the focusrite stuff. if they mess with the platinum range,
whatever, that's their entry level stuff.

but if they mess with red and blue, that would be a crime.

any truth to this?

I dunno... but this is also the 'net, so why do you think you'll get
something more than rumors here too?

Maybe an e-mail to someone @ focusrite will at least get you an official
response, if not an accurate one.

Regards,
Mark

The platinum line is about on par with less expensive Presonus pre's, I
haven't played with a red or blue unit made after about '98. The way they
put the Focusrite name on the Mbox pre's is most humerous. People were
verbally disappointed when they withdrew plans to put Focusrite pres in the
001, so they just put the name on the same preamp for the Mbox...

If it wasn't for the 002 Rack I'd say that company had absolutely no
comprehension of the industry they claim to lead. Lead where?

I can tell you that the new ISA428 is made in China, if that constitutes
skimping. Those are real Lundahl transformers inside, though.

Yes it's digidesign and according to a lot of folks they are run by
the devil himself. they make people buy their gear and not only that
they buy companies only to destroy them. yes a satanic lot those
fellows at digidesign.

Nop! Digi eat them up and thoroughly digested it ;-)

It ain't 'Digi' that has been cutting corners... Focusrite is it's own
company that is cutting corners all on it's own... no outside interference
required.

Yup... Focusrite manufactures all their own stuff, Digi just
distributes it, and only in the US I believe.

Focusrite also worked with Digi on the Control 24.

I have ISA 220 and Red 1. They sound pretty similar to me.
Perhaps a silky edge (?) to the Red 1... But I tend to use the ISA for
different purposes, so it's hard to tell.
Not heard the 428 yet, but considering getting one.
If I noticed noise from any of these pres, I'd get it repaired. :)
