I just started mixing in the box, rather than on a console, and I'm
having a bit of trouble setting up two-stage compression in Nuendo.
Here is what I've done so far (i'll use drums as an example):
Set up 3 groups
1) uncompressed
2) compress loud parts
3) compress soft parts
Route group 1 to group 2, to group 3 to stereo bus
This is the only way I've been able to figure out how to set it up.
the PROBLEM is that I can't solo any of the groups because only group
3 goes to the stereo bus. AND I can't blend the three busses without
effecting the compression on the other groups. I've tried to look for
some kind of pre-fader group send, but I can't find one.
So, does anyone know how I can set this up so that I can solo each
group to set the compression, while still being able to blend the
three groups without effecting the input signal of any of them?
thanks!

Which version of nuendo are you using? I managed this is nuendo 3 but
i set it up in a slightly different way.
Group 1 - Uncompressed signals, use a pre fade aux send to route this
to group 2 and set the output of this group to group 3
(you should find the aux sends if you click on the little (e) on the
channel, then the black bars on the right hand side of the window that
comes up. these allow routing to the groups in nuendo 3 as long as
you're sending to a higher number, i think nuendo 4 has more flexible
routing)
Group 2 - Compressed soft parts, output set to group 2 not mix buss.
Group 3 - Sum of group 1 and group 2 compressed to control the loud
bits.

thanks for the good suggestions. I actually took a combination of
both since neither did exactly what I was looking for because I wanted
to be able to solo each signal and then blend them accordingly. I
routed the original signals to group 1, then used the pre fader sends
to spit that signal to route to group 2 and 3. I can simply solo all
three tracks and then just bring up the one I want to work on with the
fader. I set the loud comp, then the soft comp, then blend in the
uncompressed with the two compressed and done. I'm getting no comb
filtering or latency, so that's not an issue. Thanks again!
