Has anyone done a comparison between the MP20 and Onyx 1220 preamps?
I currently have the Onyx and it sounds pretty good to me for DAW
recording purposes, I wish the Perkin EQ (pre fader) was something I
could take into my DAW - but no big deal.
Does anyone know how the 1220 compares with the MP20:
1) Current stock op-amps
2) Op-amps modded (Burr-Browns or otherwise).
The Jensen transformer mod just seems like way too much trouble in
return for what you get. I already have a Peavey VMP-2 for color. I
just wanted a nice clean pre as an option.
PS. I already have the Onyx.

I doubt it. Why would anyone do that? I can give you a comparison
between the Onyx and a Great River MP2, or a Focusrite PRO, but
nothing from Presonus.

Keep it. What more are you expecting to get out of the Presonus? You
already have a decent real tube preamp with transformers, so there's
probably nothing to be gained with the Presonus. Try an RNMP. Or did
you leave out the part about "I can get an MP20 at a good price."?

yeah, I guess that's true. Sorry, Mike ;-)
The main background is that I currently have a Presonus Firepod and it
has 8 nice pres in it. But I'm a DP guy and I've been thinking about
going to an 828 MkII just because the converters seem better and it
plays better with DP.
I didn't want to lose 4 preamps and was thinking about selling the
Firepod and picking up an MP20 to offset the loss. But those pres on
the Onyx are pretty nice - I was presently thinking about selling it.
But I guess I won't now.
Thanks again,
Charles
