Ever recorded yourself or someone else singing along to karaoke
tracks? Any general impressions of them? Do you find you often have
to do a lot of tweaking to get them where you want them?

I once got paid to record a CD of tracks for a couple with pub-singing
aspirations. They brought in all their own backing tracks which were
Karaoke stuff. The quality ranged from appalling "rinky tink" MIDI stuff to
well recorded and professional...sometimes rivalling the backing on the
original hits. I suspect that, like anything, you get what you pay for.

There's a lot of very well-made karaoke tracks out there. The voice
slots in no problem. If you get a bad one, tweak away:-)
Unfortunately, an inexperienced singer sometimes chooses a bad one -
he feels it gives his voice more "support". What he means is,
something is playing the tune for him.

I've played around with both midi (KAR) and karaoke (CDG).
Depending upon the sequencer and the arraingmement you can position the
instruments around your , for lack of a better terminology, virtual stage.
With CDG files this isn't available. you get a sound file that you can lay a
vocal track over the top of.
Yet not every midi sequencer sounds the same and not all arraingments are
preformance quality. Not every CDG file set is preformance quality either.
I like Sound Choice's quality the best. If it makes a differnce. They use
real musicians down there in Charlotte (I think) not good midi through good
sequncers.. :)
