View Full Version : Mic repair in London

December 16th 07, 04:23 PM
Hi,
I recently bought a microphone on eBay, unfortunately Royal Mail did
their usual trick of managing to brake it. In all honesty the repairs
needed are pretty minor, but I would prefer a professional to do the
work.
I am in London, so can anyone recommend someone who can repair old
German tube mics?

Thanks,
Pete.

The name on the box is 'VEB Funkwerk Leipzig', with the model number
CM7156. I'd say it's post-war.

Yerp, there weren't any peoples owned factories prewar and Leipzig used to
be in the DDR. But the DDR was in many ways the simple continuation of the
3' Reich, and not all designs manufactured by their industry were new. From
the one that is still to find on ebay my guess is however post war.

How do you plan to power it, were powersupply specs included?

See also: http://search.ebay.de/_W0QQsassZphono-fan for images and info on
such a mike.

I find the buy it now price an order of magnitude too high for an untested
microphone that needs a custom powersupply but hasn't got it almost no
matter its merits, at least unless you miss only that microphone to have a
complete collection of valve-driven condensers from the DDR.

Kind regards

It came with a power supply, and relevant cables.

Thank you for supplementing with this important information.

That looks like a Neumann-style part number, but I thought the Leipzig
folks were East German AKG. Oliver Archut would know for sure. Either
he or Udo at Microtech Gefell would be my first phone calls if I were you.
That definitely didn't come from Gefell but Udo would know if there was
anything left of where it did come from. And if there was any tech local
to you.

Mark is a bit of a vintage mic nut and has very good techs on hand.
