View Full Version : Motherboard Reccomendation

Well, I've worked through some issues regarding the construction of a
computer for recording. My biggest remaining problem is the
motherboard. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm probably going
with Intel board but have not ruled out Asus or Abit and a couple
others. The Asus Maximum MB suggested by my vendor is more money than
I would like to spend but I really wouldn't mind the DDR3. I'm getting
burnt out by the rapid research on a computer too slow to even surf
the net, so I ask for any suggestions for model numbers and
manufacturers before I go ahead.
I want to try to include (but not absolutely) the following: Multiple
PATA interfaces, Firewire, legacy PCI slots.

Check the recomendations on the website of the gear and software you intend
to use. Digi, for instance, has specific recomendations for chipsets and
computers...
DDR3 is a horse of a different color. Double the cost at less than 10%
performance increase on any given platform which can use it with currently
available components. If you are willing to wait for six months to a year
and a half to purchase your rig it might be feasable because the projected
increases in clock speed will realize the theoretical performance increases
which are forecast by the makers. For now, the performance to price is
prohibitive unless you want a current board and are willing to spend the
money to "future proof" your system. Plan on replacing the poor performing
current DDR3 with the faster stuff in the future.

Not sure what model this is but I recommend either the ASUS P5K or the
ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP. Of course if you want the latest Intel X38,
then I'd recommend the ASUS P5E.
