View Full Version : Stereo doing weird things Astra Estate

November 23rd 07, 05:01 PM
Help,
Just bought a cheap Astra Diesel Estate for work [N reg]. Looking
around the workshop I found an old Maystar MCD 303RDS cd/stereo unit.
Just plugged it straight in and away we go. So far so good,
then....problem. Whenever it feels like the music stops [CD or Radio]
and the display says.....PHONE IN......I assume that this means the
unit is expecting an incoming phone call. There are signs of a
carphone kit being fitted in the past as there are a few self tapping
screws dotted about the centre console, but I cannot see any changes
to the wiring at the connector end. or along the accessible pats of
the loom. I have tried it with my mobile-phone nowhere near the car in
case it was interfering with the signal and it still happens.! Any
clues as to how I can eliminate it? My theory is that one of the
wires in the main plug must send a signal to cut out the output? so
if I ground it [conditional upon finding it, that is!!!] will this
cure the problem OR does it need a permanent feed to it?? Any clues
as to which wire it is? or is it just a process of elimination
ignoring the obvious feed, perm-feed, ground, speaker connections
etc??

In the dim and distant past I recall Vauxhalls being a bit odd and the
perm feed and switched feed being the opposite to normal colours??
Cannot see how this could affect it, but there again I have just 'plug
and played'....don't want to be cutting wires just for the sake of it

Many thanks in advance
