help pleaseee from some one that knows what there talking about

ok i have 2 mtx 7500's with a 1400 watt amp and i am ready to get them
installed into a 4runner witch is open air so idk what to do when it
comes to a box, sealled?? or ported?? i have heard so many diffrent
things about both idk what to belive, and i have no idea what is gonna
hit hardest and sound the best in a open air application. if i could
get alittle advice from some knowledgable people that would be nice.

Ported enclosures will be louder and have a freq response spike prolly
somewhere in the 35-65Hz range, depending on how big the chambers and
ports are. Optimal ported enclosures are larger than optimal sealed
ones. In general, ported boxes are good SPL boxes. You can play with
port and chamber size to tune an enclosure to a specific frequency and
determine how big that spike is. Check out WinISD, it can help you
design an enclosure. The sealed boxes will have a flatter response
curve, ie better SQ. They're slightly quieter and take up less room.

Sounds like space isnt an issue, so do you want a loud SPL system, or
a nice flat response SQ system? I don't think 'hit hardest' and
'sound best' will be the same box because you can always sacrifice one
for the other.

Ported enclosures at not louder because of the port. They are
louder because the driver is naturally louder than the sealed box parameter
driver. If you do not port when there must be a port, the bandpass is severly
limited. Net output will be less, but not because it is less effecient. The case
for a peaking effect would seem to increase efficiency but reduce bandwidth.
You can also control the output of a bandpass box by controlling the size
of the box sexctions, and port size.

The size of the box is determined by the drivers parameters
and alignment selected.

I always wonder what "hit" means to people.
A good transient response, or a sloppy boomy peak.
