View Full Version : System build

Hi,

I need a new system for suzuki swift, and I need to know about THD(if
this is important). Does it matter to me if I plan to use only the pre-
outs. The audio flow will be Head unit>Equilizer>Amplifiers>Speakers

Equilizer will filter the pre-outs in high/mid/sub.

Since I'm using the equilizer, I will be using only 1pre-out from HU.
My question is I can safely go with the cheapest HU offering 1 RCA
pair. Does quality of pre-out differs among HU as is the case with
internal amp. Does THD point to a good pre-out.

I was surprised to see that even Alpine lists THD data at 1kHz.
http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=288 Is this
brand going towards JVC/Boss types

Thanks guys,
Vivek

THD of <1% generally considered inaudible. The distortion from the highest
quality speakers will be several times that at normal volumes. As a
practical matter, you can ignore the THD ratings and put your attention to
the preout voltage which will end up being most important for setting the
gains on your amplifier and/or eq (if it allows it).
