Default RME Fireface 800 - How many simultaneous analog ins??

RME Fireface 800... How many simultaneous analog inputs will it send
to firewire?

I can't seem to figure this out from the RME website's information...

It seems that the RME routing software has to be run simultaneously
with one's recording software, also. Is that right?

Thanks,

stv

It has 8 analog inputs, although this can be expanded to 24 by adding
additional converters with ADATA lightpitpe outputs, the RME's routing
software is optional. You only need it when you aren't directly
monitoring input to output on a per track basis.

That is a little befuddling, isn't it? It appears that there are ten,
of which four have mic preamps available and one has an instrument DI
(high impedance) input available. The simple version is 8 line inputs
and 2 mic inputs, but two of those 8 line inputs can be used as mic
inputs, and one can be used as an instrument DI.

That's actually where you set up the "low latency" monitor mix. I
suspect that once you set up the mix, you can close the routing
program and the mix will stay there. At least that's the way I'd
design it.

OK, you got me there by technicality :-)

I think it's remote controllable by the application. BTW, the Micstacy
that you were asking about is real, there's pictures of it on the
website. I can also see where this thing would be really useful in a
live rig with one of those handy dandy digital snakes. You could put it
on the stage and remote control it from the FOH. And with very low
latency... hmmm... giving me ideas :-)

The FF800 has 10 AD converters and allows you use them all at the same
time. Some of them are permanently line inputs, some are are mic pres
and so on. But you can actually record 10 analog signals at the same
time.

TotalMix (the mixer software) runs inside the FF800 box, using the DSP
there. It allows you to mix any inputs to any outputs. The mixer can
be controlled by a program you run in your PC/Mac. No mixing is done
in your computer, it only controls the mixer. Once a mix is setup the
FF800 can be setup to remember it and use it when starting up next
time. Hence no need to even have the program in your computer (trust
me though, you will want to have it there, and will quickly become
addicted to using it for making monitor mixes and odd routings).

Opions:
I can highly recommend the FF800 (have used it, will probably buy one,
using a Digiface right now).
