Default Replacing tube in MXL V69me

I'll be picking up on of these LDC's and am interested in trying a tube
swap to replace the chinese stock tube. Is there anything I can get
for less than $25 that might be an improvement over whats in there?
And where would I buy it?

Thanks,

Dan Fox

What's inside there? If it's a 6DJ8 or equivalent, you don't have a whole
lot of options. But call Ned at Triode Electronics in Chicago and ask what
he has in the junk pile that might be an upgrade.

Well, try the JJ ones. They aren't expensive and they will at least be
quieter than the typical Chinese production. Triode should stock them.

Hi Dan

Last fall, I got a pair of matched 12AT7 NOS Mullards for my V69ME. I
am ecstatic that I did. It sounds a lot more thick and creamy now to
my ears. It's no high end mic, of course. But for a vocal session on
my voice we blind tested my 69ME against a Langevin CR-3A and a couple
other sub-1K mics. The 69 won out. YMMV. But, I've been very happy
with the swap.

Thanks to some posters here on rap for advice etc.

I would advise that you get some good tools to do the swap though. A
good fine micro screwdriver kit is indispensible.

A friend of mine suggested I get the tubes on Ebay he

Very reasonable cost. Very prompt shipping. Good feedback.

Good luck,

Charles
