Default Interesting question for the anti-war crowd

A resonably conservative pro-war friend of mine asked me recently to
consider whether Libya would have voluntarily given up its WMD designs or
whether Iran would have opened itself up to IAEA inspections if the Iraq war
had not been waged.

An interesting question, no doubt.

The fact that this happened does not in and of itself prove a causal
relationship, nor does it indicate that this was the only way to accomplish
that goal.
Iraq indicated that the alleged WMD did not exist before the war, and now
the coalition cannot find these weapons. The truth is that the US wanted an
invasion and a regime change and knew that Iraq could not produce these
weapons. Inspections such as Iran has now agreed to were in progress in
Iraq, but Bush said that was not good enough. The war was inevitable and the
weapons threat was simply a cover.

Iraq earlier indicated that it 'HAD' the WMD, and refused to offer
verification
of what had happened to them.
