Default I need new speakers. Please advise.

I liked my EPI 70s a lot, but they're definitely dead. What would you
recommend to me based on that?

Thank you very much.

Rebuilt them with these parts?

These speakers have to be at least 20 years old. A lot has changed in audio
since then.

Speakers that meet the same basic description are now very common. Companies
like Paradigm, PSB, Infinity, Boston Acoustics, are just a few leading
manufacturers of similar speakers. Expect to find speakers that are no more
expensive, smoother, and have lower distortion.

Thank you both very much. It's nice to have somewhere to begin, at
least (you can see how long it's been since I've shopped for audio
equipment!).

Hadn't thought of that. I do remember that in their era (mid to late
1970's?), these were well-regarded, affordable speakers.

And the parts look a bit pricey too. I'd go with new speakers,
although there's another possibility, if the OP wants to stick with
EPI:

Agree. By the way, I see some good deals on Athena bookshelf speakers
at:

http://search.ebay.com/athena-speakers

Athena is from the same makers as Energy and Mirage, which are also
good speaker brands. Athena is also sold via Best Buy stores.

(Although if your BB store is like the one I visited tonight, the
speakers are on display, but not connected. And a lot of other
electronics on display weren't connected either...very frustrating!)
