big bang
i recently hooked up an amp to my speakers and when i start my car there is
big bang or crack from the speakers, only for a second with the key in the crank position. any solutions? also just an fyi, i cant remember if it was doing it before cause i havent driven the vehicle in over a year also there is a high pitch whine only while in gear and accelerating. at first i thought my speker wires were too close too my power cables, but they arent. and it could be the grounds but i doubt it. any other suggestions? |

Usually this kind of problem is caused by bad ground from the RCA wires. Try disconnecting the RCA's from the amp and turn it on again and see if the problem stops |

I've experienced a "pop" when the system turns on, with an alternater
whine while driving as part of the ground wire being too long in a couple of my installs. You could be having the same issue. Try shortening the ground to your amp(s) and/or making sure the the ground connection is very solid. That has solved the problem for me in the past. ~The Lull no29db wrote: i recently hooked up an amp to my speakers and when i start my car there is big bang or crack from the speakers, only for a second with the key in the crank position. any solutions? also just an fyi, i cant remember if it was doing it before cause i havent driven the vehicle in over a year also there is a high pitch whine only while in gear and accelerating. at first i thought my speker wires were too close too my power cables, but they arent. and it could be the grounds but i doubt it. any other suggestions? |

sounds like it could be a ground issue, try an have all of your audio equipment to have a good ground...maybe do the big 3 upgrade to the same size power wire that you have....it couldn't hurt to try -- todd.brust |

Make sure the audio cables aren't shorted to the car's chassis. Their only electrical contact with the car's chassis must be the analog ground inside the radio. It could also be crappy equipment: Lots of stereos have a dirty virtual ground that's fine for the balanced speaker output but it makes a mess of the unbalanced RCA output. Try connecting the stereo's speaker outputs to the high level inputs of the amp. Some really crappy amps have grounded inputs so high currents flow through the RCA cables. Pull all of the wires off the amp and check the continuity between the RCA jack shields and the negative power terminal. If there's less than 100 Ohms resistance, put the amp on your sidewalk with a "Free" sign. |
