Anyone got an idea what I could check on this? It is usually a combination of things, from worn/dirty parts to high back tension. You might be able to dismantle the transport, free off sticky things and clean the reel clutches / brakes / tape path / capstan etc, without using any new parts, but you kind of need to know what you are doing. You will also need to measure the back tension and adjust it, if it is adjustable at all. For this you will need a tension tape which is expensive. After you have messed with the transport you will then almost certainly need to realign it, which requires an expensive alignment tape and the required skills and knowledge to use it. In short this is not the kind of thing you really want to be doing, as if you do have a go it will probably not just fast forward or rewind properly, it will probably no longer play or record either.
