Vandersteen 1B Woofer Repair Question
Greetings,
Wondering if anyone can offer me advice. The cone of one woofer in my pair of Vandersteen 1B's has separated from the surround. The gap stretches about 2 inches of the speaker circumference. The separation is hardly visible, but occasionally causes audible distortion. I know I can send the woofer back to Vandersteen for rebuilding, but I'd rather save the $80 + s/h if just applying some adhesive will do the trick. The surround is in good shape, so refoaming doesn't seem necesssary. So, my questions are... Is there a particular adhesive one would recommend for the job? If anyone has done this kind of thing before, are there are steps to follow, precautions to take? Can I do this without removing the woofer from the cabinet? P.S. The grill cloth is already off. I understand that this may be the hardest part! - Mike |
