A question to members of this forum:

I have been following http://www.worldjazz.com for a long time. It is the
most intriguingly blatant scam I've seen.

It is completely bogus; the owner of the website is one Brian L. McCarty, an
American expatriate who resides in Cairns, Australia, as well as other
addresses.

The website morphs constantly, so for reference I've reproduced the text
below.

"Krishna Mahbren", the current fictitious front man, was originally Krishna
Mahadoo, a principle of Hollywood Film Studios, a pink-sheet stock. While
looking for companies that don't answer the phone, McCarty stumbled across
this one, and created a fictitious Krishna Mahadoo who worked for the
company's stock transfer agent, First American Stock Transfer of Phoenix.
When I pointed that out, he changed the last name to "Mahbren", and made his
new affiliation "First American Stock" of Denver. Now he's dropped the
"First American" and added on a Ph.D.

This is merely the latest in an apparent fraudulent front, combined with
totally fictitious names and endorsements going back several years. Every
"fact" cited in the text, reproduced below, is a lie. There is no Jersey
Jazz Bass Festival, the "Moscow Central TV" claim has been going on for nine
months. In the past, McCarty has even had MY name up as an endorsement, on
his other website http://www.coralseastudios.com, which as a business
venture is completely defunct.

Clicking on the "WorldJAZZ" banner at the top of the page gives an
unresolved link to Singapore's largest venture capital firm, K1 Ventures.
The company secretary disavows any connection with McCarty or his schemes.

In the domain's registration, reproduced below, yet another fictitious
person, "David Ellison" appears. Many other aliases and false addresses have
been used. The phone numbers are alternately disconnected, provide only fax
tones, or an unnamed voicemail box.

My question to the members of this forum is, what are the chances that
McCarty could actually snare anyone? He can't be written off as completely
harmless, since in the late 90's, he managed to con the brother of
Australian P.M. John Howard into backing the Coral Seas venture.

McCarty may respond to this post with an alias. It's usually pretty obvious.
