Default sm57 repair question.

I was going through some old boxes and found an sm57 that was taken
apart. I remember trying to fix it years ago and puttint it aside for
some reason. Now I am looking at it and it seems to be that everything
is there the green a yellow wires are not connected..but there seems
to be a missing part on the cartridge. there is a long bolt screw
coming out of the cartridge but nothing else. On some photos I have
seen there seems to be an oval shaped perfboard looking part with two
tabs to solder the green and yellow wires to and then the bolt is
tightened down.. This is missing. Does anyone know how this oval
tabbed part connects to the cartridge underneath it? I imagine if I
figure that out I could just fabricate something that might work..
Any help appreciated,
Brian

Your element is bad. If the contact board is gone, so are the miniscule
wires going to the coil.

Send the mike back to Shure, they will fix it for less than what they will
charge for a new element. In fact, you can buy a new SM57 for less than what
they charge for a replacement element.

I sent an SM57 to Shure for repair and it cost me about $50. It's been
awhile but I believe the shipping was extra. What irked me a bit was
that my mic body was in much better condition than what I received in
return. But what really irked me was it quit working a few months
later. So I decided to buy a AMI-TAB Funkenwerk SM57 with a
transformer upgrade to replace it. It has become my primary mic for
snare and electric guitars.

It appears you can get this mic at Mercenary with the TAB transformer
upgrade as well.
