Can I PLEASE get a straight answer on modifying a Cr02 Type II tape for
**** it, better to order real DCC tapes and be done with it. I'm almost
willing to erase all my old, only use once tapes (yeah, right) and sell them to him for pennies on the dollar to shut him up. It reminds me of us cutting knotches in 5 1/4" floppies so we could get another 180 KB of storage from the backside but the cost of actually getting some DCC tapes that will record for 45 minutes per direction is less than those 5 1/4" floppies at the time. At least we had a real financial interest. -- Roger W. Norman SirMusic Studio Purchase your copy of the Fifth of RAP CD set at www.recaudiopro.net. See how far $20 really goes. Can someone PLEASE give me possibly a link to a website with a tutorial (and possibly pics) for doing this? We do Google. You can do Google. If someone hasn't pointed you to a web site within about fifteen seconds of your post, there isn't one. Nor do I expect there to be. Look at the transport. Do you see something that might want to poke into a notch in a cassette? If you do, put a notch there. I'll bet if you poke at things, you can see an indicator change, indicating that there's a digital tape inserted. Or if someone can reffer me to a picture of a modified tape, even better! Maybe it would be best to find a picture of a real tape and copy that. -- I'm really Mike Rivers - ) |

This was back when 5-1/4" disks were down to around a dime a piece, but the new 3-1/2" ones were around a buck (before rebates, of course). Then AOL would send you a free 3.5" every other week or so, bless their hearts. dtk |

I don't know about CDR prices now. I got about 500 last year and haven't
finished them yet (got about 80 left). But DVDR prices aren't too bad, although I have to admit, I haven't even kept up with what a +R or -R means. I've just got a stack of Rs that I use for archiving and another stack of DVD-RAM for temporary project storage. Most of my projects in the last year have either gone to pressing or the client does their own CDR burning. Or, I've been playing on other people's projects and the work goes out over the internet. I'll bet I haven't burned 100 CDRs this year. In fact, I bought this 52X Plexiwriter that Kurt mentioned and it's still sitting on top of the stack of compressors. Open computer virtually ready to run up in my wife's office which I was just going to use for burning, but that's an idea that apparently hasn't happened yet, even with all the parts in place. My wife just thinks I'm lazy, but hey, if you haven't come up with a use for it yet, why bother? But overall, on virtually every format front, things are much cheaper today, but then we're talking about 20 years of development, even leading into CDR burners and media. I remember being at Planning Research Corp in the early 80s when we were starting to work with actually pressing discs in-house as memory systems. By the time I got to the US Army Material Command HQ we'd already started getting a fairly large number of CD-ROM based systems while the tech support guys were still having problems learning Windows 3.0. We're in a pretty fast moving time in technology right now and I supposed that you could say once a technology gets down to a pennies per basis that it's probably a technology that's soon going by the wayside. -- Roger W.
