Default Pro Tools M Powered switches to other sample rate?

Hello,

I have been running Pro Tools M Powered succesfully for some time now, with
an M-Audio Firewire 410. Lately I did some upgrades (new harddrive etc) and
made the update to PT 7.1. Since then, PT sometimes produces an "underwater"
sound, what you get when you try to squeeze out 48k audio from a 44k1
device.

Mostly I solve this by just opening and closing the import audio screen
(don't ask) and then I can go on for 5-500 minutes and then it happens
again.

But sometimes the trick doesn't work. The M-Audio control panel shows level
meters which hang on a certain level and if you try to move a fader, it
freezes.

Meanwhile, you can go on in Pro Tools (although the sound is not acceptable
to work with ofcourse), but when you close the application, it takes hours
(if it even closes).

I have found that MacDrive is a no go with the firewire device, but that is
already disabled. The system is completely built for PT (yes, I have seen
the requirements on the digidesign site). I've got the latest PT, the latest
Maudio driver, latest Windows updates etc. The system has worked fine
before.

Are there any other users out there that experience the same problem? Does
it have something to do with v7.1?

Regards,
Gert
