Side mic for classical guitar
I would like to get a figure-8 mic to use with my Schoeps 6/41 (or
6/2) to record solo classical guitar in MS. What might be some recommendations for a figure-8 that goes well with the Schoeps? Regards, Hesham |

What might be some recommendations for a figure-8 that goes well with the Schoeps? How about another Schoeps? If you like the tonality of the MK41, you'll like the tonality of the MK8 as well. And you'll know that the tonality will be the same everywhere across the soundfield (which is not really a big deal for guitar where you don't have a real stereo image, but it can be a big deal for far-field miking). --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. According to Schoeps website the MK8 has substantially more self noise and less sensitivity than the MK41 and MK2 (one of which I will use as center mic). On a quiet source such as classical guitar I am afraid of the added background noise to an otherwise clean mono recording. As an alternative, can you recommend a quieter side mic that still combines well with the MK41/MK2? (I am not confined to SDCs.) |

That's what you get with a figure-8 unless you go to a much larger microphone. The physics is just that way. But remember, you won't need to mix much of the side mike in anyway. As an alternative, can you recommend a quieter side mic that still combines well with the MK41/MK2? (I am not confined to SDCs.) Maybe a 414B/ULS? Most of the good figure-8s I can think of, though, are a lot noisier than the MK8. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
