Oh so true... Your post is perfused with american culture references, but I
could write the same with european ones...

If you, like me, prefer spending more money on a reliable and long lasting
item, rather than spending much less money on a piece of **** that will
anyway be replaced before one year, then you're in dire straits, because the
whole world has fallen into change-itis and crap-o-mania.
