Weird bird here. I have accepted the fact that I will have to retain the
factory head. Can I tap into the rear speakers to add a sub? Also, any ideas
on integrating my IPod other than an RF transmitter?

9 out of 10 times rear speakers can be tapped for a subwoofer input with no
problems whatsoever. This is true EVEN for weird "premium" systems like
Bose and Infinity because even if the speaker impedance is strange (Bose
uses 16 ohm speakers or something like that) OR there is some kind of
induced noise issue like an alternator whine, it generally doesn't matter
with a subwoofer because your subwoofer amp X-over will eliminate any
frequencies (including noise) higher than 100 Hz or so. This tends to make
subwoofer integration REALLY easy. You should have no trouble.
