Default Research shows ears hear differently

In an article published today the New York Times reports that recent
scientific research reveals that the left and right ears process
sounds differently, with speech being processed primarily by the right
ear and music by the left.

I can specualte as well as anyone, but
it would help to know the magnitude of the effect, and whether it
persists beyond infancy.
