Default 2 mike accessories needed

Hooking up my H4/Behringer C-2 mikes using a special cable. I'd like to buy
a mike cable that consists of a 2-pair mike cable (such as the Belden 8723)
with a Y-connection to a pair of XLRs on each end. This is equivalent to 2
mike cables, but is only a single cable for both over most of the run. I
will use it to connect a pair of Behringer C-2 mikes in quasi coincident
configuration to the H4 recorder. I realize that it's possible to buy 2
ordinary mike cables, but I don't want to have to dress 2 separate cables
for the entire length. I'm also aware that I can make up such a cable
myself--but I'd rather not.

I also need plastic clips to hold the mike cable against the mike stand. Is
there a company that specializes in this type of mike cable accessory?
This is just to make it look good, since I could easily use nylon cable
ties.

So call Markertek and order a 2-channel snake. Belden makes cable to do
this, and Gotham makes some really neat siamese-pair cable for it.

Markertek probably stocks those too. I suggest gaff tape, though. It's
more convenient and faster than the clips or cable ties.

I made my own with dual 3-pin XLRs to a single
5-pin XLR wired in the same manner as my stereo
mics. That way I can use my stereo mic cable (the
Belden 1904A "2-pair snake") either with one of
my stereo mics, or with a pair of conventional mics
on a bar, etc.

I used that "siamese" shielded pair (from Markertek,
IIRC) for the "Y-cables", and they are very useful.
I think I will make up a couple more.

I also need plastic clips to hold the mike cable against the mike stand.

They get lost so easily that I just gave up and use
gaffer's tape. I keep several strips "stored" on the
stand near the base so I can grab them as needed.

There's also the Velcro type cable wraps that can double as
a storage aid.

Many mic stands come with the clips as part of the stand. I'm sure any pro
audio dealer would have a source of supply apart from that...perhaps even
the Guitar Center in your area.

As for the cable, I have never seen anything like that except for a mic
snake, and the smallest of those that I can recall seeing is four mics. You
may have to make that one yourself. If you do, make sure you get a good
quality star-crossed cable with a good braided shield...Belden or Cardas
make them.

2 pairs individually screened is a standard cable, fit 5 pin XLR's in
both ends. Plastic boxes will make excellent breakout boxes for it and
possibly be less problematic than metal boxes.

And making a "Y-cable" is less problematic than any box.

The "siamese" shielded pair mic cable (like the stuff from
Markertek, etc.) fits nicely through the strain-relief of a
conventional 5-pin connector. I have made several of
these and use them in the field all the time.

Save yourself the trouble. Order one 90A4148 from Shure.
Order one C110 25-ft. extension cable (or however many you need to go
the distance you need to go) from Shure. These are items for the VP-88.

Then you will only have to make one adapter for the microphone end.

The Shure user's guide for the VP-88 shows the wiring of the connector
if you need that info.

Many years ago I made up several thousand feet of cables of this sort in
various lengths (Canare StarQuad), with eight sets of adapters/boxes.
They come in very handy for keeping cable clutter to manageable levels.
It isn't that difficult to make your own, but if you're willing to pay
the money for someone else to do it, why bother with making your own?

QuikLok A300 cable clip might be a place to start. Just be aware that in
the heat of battle, you're likely to lose your clips. I've got 48 mic
stands many of which (the K&M collapsible w/extendable boom) came with
two cable clips each. I don't think I could find two clips today if I
had to.
