I am trying to copy a wav file I got off the internet to a CDR. Seems
like it copies ok but when I try to play it on my cd player it comes
out distorted. I have done disk copies of other audio cd's with no
problem.

Can someone tell me what to do or what is wrong?

Does it play properly BEFORE being burned onto the CDR (e.g. while still
on your computer)?

You don't say what CD writing software you use. Neither
do you explain exactly what you mean by "distorted." Do
you hear the intended sound at all? Is there just
static? Does it, perhaps, play too fast or too slow?

First of all, make sure that you are in fact burning an
"Audio CD", not a "Data CD".

Second, most burning software insists that the wave
file is 44.1 kHz, since that's the frequency used by
CDs. Any other frequency has to be converted. I'm
sorry, but I don't have a good suggestion for software
to do the conversion right now.

Cool Edit can resample, or use ssrc

If you rely on the CD burning software to convert the sample rate you might
well get the nasty result the OP has described.
